Hidden Diagnosis: Prenatal Alcohol Exposure & Its Many Implications For Foster Youth

April 26, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

As many as 70% of children in foster care have neurological impairments that may be traced back to prenatal alcohol exposure, including intellectual and learning disabilities, attention and memory problems, difficulty with judgment and reasoning, and many others. 80% of children in foster care have not been properly diagnosed and, as a result, may not receive appropriate treatment and may experience multiple placements.

This webinar, hosted by the Maryland CASA Association, will discuss neurobehavioral disorders in children and youth that may be attributed to prenatal alcohol exposure and the need for proper diagnosis. Participants in this webinar will learn to recognize the red flags that may indicate neurobehavioral disorders associated with prenatal alcohol exposure and key strategies for advocating for proper intervention and services.

Presented By| Dr. Douglas Waite, MD, medical director of The Children’s Village’s Keith Haring Clinic, a community foster care agency and residential treatment center established in 1851, located in Harlem, the Bronx, and Dobbs Ferry, New York.

Volunteers should notify staff of attendance in order to receive in-service credit.
