Description| Eating disorders are not lifestyle choices nor cries for attention, they are serious and often fatal illnesses that cause severe disturbances to a person’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being. In a culture obsessed with thinness and dieting, it can be difficult to recognize when a person’s thinking or behavior has become dangerous.
Eating disorders are serious but treatable mental illnesses that can affect people of every age, sex, gender, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic group. With the number of people with eating disorders on the rise, it is important to know the common signs and symptoms associated with eating disorders.
Participate in this webinar to learn about body image issues, eating disorders, and basic treatment and recovery. This webinar will also help participants to promote positive body image in youth.
Presenter| Jess Willard Ayer, LCSW-C, of the Renfrew Center Eating Disorder Treatment Facility will be leading this webinar. With over 8 years of experience working as a therapist and several years in the Eating Disorders’ Field, she currently works as a Professional Relations Representative for The Renfrew Center sites in Baltimore and Bethesda, MD. The Renfrew Center has been a pioneer in the treatment of eating disorders since 1985; as the nation’s first residential eating disorder facility, now with 17 locations throughout the country, Renfrew has helped more than 75,000 adolescents and adults with eating disorders and other behavioral health issues move toward recovery.
