Now that the 2017 legislative session is officially over, Melissa Rock of Advocates for Children & Youth will provide an overview of bills pertaining to child welfare that were passed and resulting changes in legislation that affect children and youth in care. The webinar will review a variety of bills aimed at protecting children from abuse and neglect, improving services to children in care, and addressing obstacles facing youth who are aging out of care. About The Presenter:
Melissa Rock is the Director of the Zero to Three Strategic Initiative in Baltimore City, and was previously the Child Welfare Director at Advocates for Children and Youth, an organization that seeks to identify problems, promote policies and programs that improve results for Maryland’s children in measurable and meaningful ways, and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and policies for the state’s children and youth. As the Child Welfare Director, she works with the statewide child welfare administrators and stakeholders to improve the experience of children and families involved with the abuse and neglect system. In June 2012, Melissa was appointed to the Department of Human Resources’ Alternative Response (AR) Advisory Council, to oversee Maryland’s implementation of AR and made a co-chair of the AR Evaluation Workgroup. Melissa graduated from the George Washington University Law School in 2001, with high honors, from Brandeis University in 1998.
